Newcastle University ตั้งอยู่ที่เมือง Newcastle ซึ่งเป็นเมืองใหญ่ทางตอนเหนือของประเทศอังกฤษ เป็นเมืองแห่งศูนย์กลางทางวัฒนธรรมและความทันสมัย มีสถาปัตยกรรมที่โดดเด่นเป็นที่รู้จัก เช่น สะพาน Gateshead Millennium, Baltic Art Gallery, รูปปั้น the Angel of the North ภายในเมืองยังมีแหล่งชอปปิ้งมากมาย สถานบันเทิงในยามค่ำคืน และสถานที่สำหรับทำกิจกรรมต่างๆ เพื่อการพักผ่อนมากมาย
การเดินทางภายในเมือง Newcastle ยังสะดวกสบายด้วยรถเมล์และรถไฟ (Metro) เดินทางไปลอนดอน 3 ชั่วโมงโดยรถไฟ และ 1 ชั่วโมงโดยเครื่องบิน มหาวิทยาลัยแต่เดิมเป็น School of Medicine and Surgery ก่อตั้งขึ้นเมื่อปี 1834 ก่อนที่จะเปลี่ยนมาเป็น University of Newcastle upon Tyne และเป็น Newcastle University ในที่สุด มหาวิทยาลัยตั้งอยู่ใกล้บริเวณ City Centre บนพื้นที่กว่า 50 เอเคอร์ และมีการลงทุนกว่า 200 ล้านปอนด์เพื่อการพัฒนาพื้นที่ อาคารและสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกสำหรับการเรียนการสอน
มหาวิทยาลัยถูกจัดให้อยู่ในลำดับที่ 18 in the UK โดย Sunday Times University Guide 2014 ได้รับความพึงพอใจจากนักเรียนต่างชาติโดยการโหวตให้อยู่ในอันดับ 10 จากมหาวิทยาลัยทั่วอังกฤษโดย National Student Survey 2013 และยังได้รับความพึงพอใจสูงขึ้นในทุกๆปี และสูงกว่าระดับเฉลี่ยถึง 82% ปัจจุบันมหาวิทยาลัยได้ร่วมมือกับกลุ่มอุตสาหกรรมต่างๆ ได้แก่ กลุ่มธุรกิจทางการแพทย์ ทางด้านวิศวกรรม ด้านเกษตรกรรม ด้าน IT และแม้แต่ด้านสังคมศาสตร์และศิลปศาสตร์ ในการรองรับนักเรียนที่จบจาก Newcastle University ได้ทำงานตามสายงานต่างๆ ที่ได้เรียนมาอีกด้วย
