มหาวิทยาลัย Bangor ก่อตั้งขึ้นเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1884 เป็นหนึ่งในมหาวิทยาลัยที่เก่าแก่ที่สุดของประเทศอังกฤษ โดยมีอายุกว่า 120 ปี มีนักเรียนกว่า 70 ประเทศทั่วโลกเดินทางมาเรียนที่มหาวิทยาลัยแห่งนี้ ปัจจุบันมีนักศึกษากว่า 10,000 คน อาจารย์และเจ้าหน้าที่ของมหาวิทยาลัยกว่า 2,000 คน มหาวิทยาลัย Bangor ตั้งอยู่ใกล้กับภูเขา Snowdonia และทะเลจึงมีทัศนียภาพที่สวยงามเมืองนี้ยังเป็นเมืองที่มีความปลอดภัยสูงและเป็นเมืองที่มีค่าครองชีพถูกมากเป็นอันดับที่สอง นักศึกษาที่พักอาศัยอยู่ในหอพักของมหาวิทยาลัยไม่จำเป็นจะต้องใช้รถยนต์ส่วนตัว หรือระบบขนส่งสาธารณะ เพราะสามารถเดินเท้าจากหอพักไปยังอาคารเรียน ห้องสมุด ห้องฟังบรรยาย และห้องสัมมนาได้

การเดินทางมายังมหาวิทยาลัย Bangor สามารถเดินทางได้อย่างสะดวก โดยสามารถเดินทางจาก London ด้วยรถไฟจาก Euston Station ถึง Holyhead train ใช้เวลาราว 4 ชั่วโมง หรือสามารถเดินทางจากสนามบินManchester ด้วยรถไฟ โดยใช้เวลาราว 3 ชั่วโมง

ในปี 2005 มหาวิทยาลัย Bangor ถูกจัดให้เป็นหนึ่งในมหาวิทยาลัยที่ให้การช่วยเหลือ และสนับสนุนนักศึกษาดีที่สุด และ ในปี 2007 มหาวิทยาลัย Bangor ได้รับอันดับที่ 10 จากการทำผลสำรวจในเรื่องของประสบการณ์ของนักศึกษา โดย The Times Higher Educational Supplement
